Finding One’s Voice: Jordencea Villasan’s Real Journey in Dubbing and Voice Acting
Jordencea Villasan, known as “Dubbers in Palette,” shares his real-life journey through the struggles and triumphs of dubbing and voice acting
Jordencea Villasan, also known as “Dubbers in Palette,” did not start his career inside a recording booth. Before entering the world of voice acting, he worked as a call center agent, a job that made him realize he was not truly fulfilled. Deep inside, he knew that his passion lay elsewhere. This realization pushed him to pursue his long-time dream of becoming a voice actor, a decision that would require courage, sacrifice, and trust in the process.
His journey formally began when he joined VoiceWorks Batch 43, where he further developed his skills in dubbing, voice-over, live voice-over, and impressions. Although he advises aspiring artists not to immediately quit their jobs, Jordencea personally chose to take the risk. He considers himself an eternal student of the craft, constantly learning and improving in order to fulfill the roles entrusted to him. His foundation in voice acting was also influenced by his early exposure during his university days, which helped prepare him for professional training.
Like many voice artists, Jordencea’s passion was initially fueled by anime. Inspired by iconic characters such as Goku, Ash, and Zenki, he dreamed of dubbing anime series. However, circumstances led him toward live-action dubbing instead. While it was not his original plan, he later realized that live-action dubbing required greater discipline and technical skill. Every breath, pause, and emotion had to be perfectly matched, forcing the dubber to completely disappear and become the character.
The path was far from easy. There were months with no projects, financial struggles, and moments of doubt that tested his resolve. At one point, his family even experienced a period of extreme hardship. Despite these challenges, his mentors including Sir Choi, Papa Neil Tolentino, Direct Pinky, and others never abandoned him. Their guidance not only refined his technical skills but also strengthened his character and mindset as an artist.
One of the most unexpected and meaningful moments in his career was landing the Domex commercial. What he initially thought would be a small opportunity turned into a life-changing blessing, especially during the pandemic, as it helped support his family during a critical time. For Jordencea, this experience reinforced his belief that work should be treated as a blessing and that success arrives when the timing is right.
Jordencea does not define success through fame or recognition. He believes that voice actors are rarely known by name, and that is part of the beauty of the craft. Lending one’s voice is about serving the story, not the self. For him, true success lies in helping others sharing knowledge, mentoring aspiring voice artists, and giving back to the community that helped shape him. Through his YouTube channel, “Dubbers in Palette,” he shows the unfiltered reality of the industry, highlighting both struggles and small victories behind the microphone.
Despite the rise of artificial intelligence, Jordencea remains hopeful about the future of voice acting. He believes that technology can never replace genuine human emotion. Voice acting, for him, is more than sound it is emotion in motion. He envisions a future where the industry becomes more unified, offering opportunities to people who want not only to be heard, but to have their emotions truly felt.
He lives by two guiding principles: “Work in silence and let your success be your noise,” and “Unlearn, learn, and relearn.” These mantras remind aspiring voice artists to stay humble, continuously improve, and respect the process. Jordencea’s story stands as proof that success in voice acting is not instant it is built through patience, perseverance, and an unwavering love for the craft.
